Step 1
Draw a square around your hole, reaching from stud to stud. Studs are typically spaced 18 inches apart.
Step 2
Using a drywall saw, cut through your marks and remove this piece of drywall. A Utility knife can help cut through tricky areas.
Step 3
If your wall is textured, sand down the outer ridge of the hole.
Step 4
Secure a furring strip using drywall screws into the center of the hole.
Step 5
You can also use furring strips in place of studs all together. This attachment may be less secure but will allow you to cut a smaller hole.
